DESIGNER
I’ve been a fashion designer all my adult life, and it was my personal goal to keep the charm and play of fashion without sacrificing my ideals.
Creating items for people to dream in has been a dream itself, and it allowed me access to ongoing travel to remote places to understand how things are made. These experiences marked me, and for all the artisan expertise and knowledge, I also witnessed processes that encourage disruption to healthy ecosystems and humane systems. Being half-Peruvian and half-British also exposed me to a type of intimacy and love for the cultures who produce things, and it made the imbalances that exist feel personal. I think it is important to be understand the people and processes that "make" a thing.
Taka is the result of a life-long immersion in the making of things, and a dedication to make them the right way. Everything I create comes from personal touch, and this intimacy behind the scenes is continued into the product. As you wear Taka and it evolves alongside you, I hope you create your own intimacy with it over time. These items are meant to last a long time, and eventually go back to the earth in a kind way. I enjoy these poetics and I think the Taka lifestyle has something rich to offer in the perspectives of longevity and care.
